internship program
HELP US TELL THE STORY.
HELP THEM TELL OURS.
ROA’s internship program is cultivating the next generation of military-informed civic leaders by offering talented students a hands-on role in educating stakeholders on how national security and veterans’ policy is shaped.
This initiative places college and graduate-level interns alongside ROA’s national staff in Washington, D.C.
With its headquarters located at 1 Constitution Ave NE, Washington, D.C., no one is closer to Capitol Hill!
ROA’s team works every day to support over 800,000 RC members and approximately 1,000,000 family members — yet this critical work often happens behind the scenes.
Interns don’t spend their days on coffee runs – they actively contribute to research, policy development, and education efforts on Capitol Hill.
However, in today’s crowded media and digital environment, even the most important victories can go unnoticed without consistent, credible, and compelling communication.
This is why ROA is looking to expand its internship program across different industries and specialties – particularly, communications and marketing.
A communications/marketing intern will help bridge the gap between ROA’s team efforts and public awareness.
This role directly amplifies ROA’s message and educates more reservists, families, and policymakers understand the work being done on their behalf through:
Writing and publishing blog posts, newsletters, and press releases.
Supporting the planning and promotion of policy-related events.
Creating short videos and additional content for social media.
Coordinating professional education and development events on the Hill.
TESTIMONIALS
My internship with the Reserve Organization of America has been one of the most rewarding educational experiences of my life. ROA offered an in-depth understanding of the policy profess and a firsthand view of day-to-day operations in our nation’s capital. The program laid a strong foundation for supporting our nation’s citizen-warriors, their families, and broader national security efforts. Unlike many internships, ROA entrusted me with meaningful, substantive work. Whether coordinating events or leading initiatives I developed myself, I always felt my contributions made a real impact. This experience deepened my connection to the military community, and I cannot recommend ROA’s internship program highly enough. I strongly support its expansion so that future students can benefit from this exceptional opportunity for years to come.
At the Reserve Organization of America, I accomplished more than I ever imagined possible as an intern. This experience has been truly transformative, both personally and professionally. From the very beginning, I was welcomed as a valued member of the team and trusted with projects that were meaningful and mission-driven. Whether drafting policy memos, supporting legislative outreach, or contributing to strategic planning, I always felt empowered to make a difference. There was neer a wasted day. Each one brought new challenges, exciting opportunities, and impactful work that contributed to ROA’s mission. The fast-paced, purpose driven environment helped me grow in critical thinking, communication, and leadership. The skills I developed here will benefit me throughout my career. ROA’s internship program is outstanding, and I am truly grateful.
ROA’s Reserve Education Forum
Educating those who decide.
Empowering those who serve.
In the halls of Congress and on the front lines of service, education is power. It shapes decisions, drives strategy, and builds the leaders who will carry our nation forward.
ROA’s Reserve Education Forums are more than just events. They are classrooms without walls, where policymakers, military leaders, and reserve families come together to learn from one another, break down barriers, and create shared understanding.
This is education with a purpose.
ROA’s vision for its REFs is bold and urgent: To be the premier professional education and development forum for citizen-warriors past and present and their families.
Your investment allows REFs to expand their reach and impact, delivering targeted, high-quality education to those in uniform, particularly Non Commissioned Officers who form the foundation of our Total Force.
Education is not a one-time event. It is a force that grows stronger with each forum, each voice, and each act of support.
REF’s offer a rare opportunity to educate our nation’s decision-makers about the vital role citizen-warriors and their families have in ensuring our national security.

ROA’s Reserve Voice News Network
Sound that speaks volumes.
Unapologetically Unbiased.
In a fast-paced digital age, storytelling and information dissemination are critical. ROA envisions creating a state-of-the-art recording studio at our Washington, D.C. headquarters and launching a “Reserve Voice” News Network (a working title inspired by our Reserve Voice Magazine.
This initiative will dramatically expand ROA’s communications reach, allowing us to produce high-quality video interviews, podcasts, webinars, and digital news segments that shine a spotlight on Reservists’ contributions to national security.
There are two problems we are aiming to solve:
- The relative invisibility of Reserve and National Guard issues in mainstream media.
- The need for a trustworthy and transparent news source on reserve component matters related to national defense and family support, which does not yet exist in a centralized location.
By building our own recording studio and news network, ROA will have a powerful voice to educate the public, inform policymakers, and connect with the wider 800,000 strong Reserve force and 1,000,000 family members on a regular basis.
The Reserve Voice News Network would become the go-to source for Reserve-related content: amplifying everything ROA stands for and modernizing ROA’s outreach.
This will also benefit employers of citizen-warriors, who may not have an understanding of the benefits, tax and otherwise, of hiring and retaining reserve members and spouses in their workforce.
To convert existing ROA office space into a functional recording studio, we estimate $50,000.00 for soundproofing, lighting, set design, and professional grade audio/visual equipment (cameras, microphones, editing hardware/software).
Currently, ROA’s live broadcast and print series, the Up to the Minute Man Update, delivers real-time updates from Capitol Hill and beyond. ROA envisions this Update being a crucial segment of the network – delivering non-partisan, fact based coverage of reserve component legislative developments as they unfold.
